Francis Gerard Oneto

Feb. 7, 1922 — June 8, 2013

San Andreas resident Francis Gerard Oneto died after a brief illness on June 8 at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital in San Andreas. He was 91. 

Mr. Oneto was born in Melones to Frank and Annie (Cuneo) Oneto, and raised on the Oneto Ranch at Dry Creek, near San Andreas. He was a fourth generation and lifelong resident of Calaveras County, and a direct descendent of the pioneering Oneto, Cuneo and Gomes families, who came to Calaveras County in the early 1850s. 

He attended Willow Creek grammar school and graduated from Calaveras High School  in 1939. After high school, he went to work for Calaveras Cement. 

Mr. Oneto played football, baseball and track in high school. Later he played baseball in the U.S. Army, and softball on the cement plant team. 

He married Florence Maneely in June 1942. Shortly after he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. He trained at airfields in Stockton, San Diego and Chicago. He was stationed at Marfa Airfield in Alpine, Texas, where he was an airplane mechanic for many different types of aircraft, including B-52s. 

After World War II, he returned to work as an equipment operator at the cement plant.

After the death of his father in 1958, he left the cement plant to join his uncle full-time in running the Oneto Ranch. 

Over the years, he also worked for Keith Tallia. 

Mr. Oneto was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Annie Oneto.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Florence Oneto, of San Andreas; children, Sandra Rader and Lance Oneto, both of San Andreas; four grandchildren, Lane Rader, Libby Rader- Kassik, and Gina Kathan, all of San Andreas, and Glen Oneto, of Modesto; and seven great-grandchildren. 

No services are planned.

San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Georgia Clarice (Schneble) Patrick

July 26, 1916 — June 2, 2013

Columbia resident Georgia Clarice (Schneble) Patrick died June 2 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 96.

Mrs. Patrick was born in Dorris in Siskiyou County to Victoria and George Schneble.

She and her husband, Pat Patrick, retired to Columbia 34 years ago to be closer to family. She worked at the mercantile store in Columbia State Historic Park and volunteered to usher at the Fallon House Theater.

She enjoyed traveling, camping and RVing with her husband until his death.

She played cards several times a week and enjoyed socializing at potlucks.

She also enjoyed being a member of the close-knit Columbia Sky community, her family said.

Mrs. Patrick was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Pat Patrick; and daughter, Clarice Harris. 

She is survived by daughter, Victoria Bergstrom, of San Jose; four grandchildren, Evan Harris, of Oregon, Emily Bergstrom, of San Jose, Nick Bergstrom, of San Jose, and Kasey Bergstrom-Smith, of Loomis; and three great-grandchildren.

Donations in her memory can be made to the Tuolumne County Meals on Wheels program, 540 Greenley Road, Sonora, CA 95370.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. June 29 at Columbia Sky Clubhouse, 10956 Green St., Columbia.

Richard Allen ‘Dick’ Zwinge

July 8, 1934 — June 3, 2013

Sonora resident Richard Allen “Dick” Zwinge died June 3 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 78.

Mr. Zwinge was born in Stockton to Herman and Louise Zwinge. 

He graduated from Columbia Elementary School and Sonora High School. He later graduated from Merced Junior College in the late 1970s.

Mr. Zwinge served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1974. During his service he lived in the Philippines; Okinawa, Japan; Novato, Calif.; Biloxi, Miss.; Las Vegas, Nev.; Ogden, Utah; Merced, Calif.; and Reno, Nev. 

He also worked for the Honeywell Corp. for 21 years as a computer technician and repairman. 

Mr. Zwinge joined the Freemasons in 1971, and he enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and taking cruises. He retired to Sonora in 1996.

Mr. Zwinge was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Aneta J. Zwinge, in November 2012; daughter, Cynthia M. Friederich, in November 2012; grandson, Khanoo Yonan, in April 1995; and parents, Herman and Louise Zwinge. 

He is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Susan K. and Paul Golden, of Modesto, and Tamela Z. Adams, of Tempe, Ariz.; son-in-law, Erik Friederich, of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Chris Hurst, of Tracy, Nikki Brewer, of Klamath Falls, Ore., Tena and Jody Akers, of Modesto, Thomas Golden, of Los Angeles, Jane D. Adams, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Mary E. Adams, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; brother, William “Bill” Zwinge, of Twain Harte; sisters-in-law, Bette Bristow, of Turlock, and Sharon Williams, of Empire; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

SNYDER — Penny Snyder, 69, of San Andreas, died June 1 at her home. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. June 22 at San Andreas Community Covenant Church,  261 Treat Ave., San Andreas, CA 95249. A potluck reception will follow. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
