Calaveras’ Walters is MLL’s MVP; 3 Skins, 2 Bears, 1 Frog on 1st team

Calaveras junior Megan Walters was named the Mother Lode League’s Most Valuable Player and Redskin boss Mike Koepp its top coach for the 2013 softball season.

The Redskins claimed the 2013 MLL title with a 12-3 record behind Walters’ solid pitching. She won 16 of Calaveras’ 18 total wins on the season and finished the year with a 1.36 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 134 innings.

Meanwhile, MLL Coach of the Year Koepp led the Redskins to both the league title and a first round berth in the Sac-Joaquin Division V Championships in his first-year coaching varsity softball at Calaveras.

Redskins Grace Carr, a junior, Marissa Hukkanen, a sophomore and Jennifer Scantlen, a junior, earned First Team All-League honors. There were no active seniors on the Redskins’ roster this season.

Kharli Robertson, a sophomore, and Taylor Robinson, a junior, earned Second Team All-League honors and Miranda Kramer, a junior, earned the character award.

Summerville seniors Taylor Ebner and Taylor Leslie were also named to the First Team All-League, while Bear senior Ashley Gamber was selected to the Second Team and fellow senior Krysta Calkins earned the character award.

The Bears finished the MLL at 6-8.

Bret Harte senior Bekka Gross was selected to the First Team. Bullfrog sisters Cassidy Davis, a senior, and Sydney Davis, a sophomore, were named to the Second Team and junior Keryn Thompson earned the character award.
