Christopher Lee ‘C.B.’ Miles

May 6, 1950 — May 3, 2013

Sonora resident Christopher Lee “C.B.” Miles died May 3 at his home. He was 62.

Mr. Miles was born in Salinas to Howard Carson Miles and Margery (Edmonds) Miles. 

He worked in marketing, owning his own business, Maxwell Media Marketing, in Sonora and was a talk radio host at KNRY in Monterey.

He moved to Sonora six years ago to be with family.

Mr. Miles enjoyed golf, and played with a zero handicap, according to family members. He also enjoyed cooking and the companionship of his therapy dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of six years, Alexa Melville, of Sonora; father-in-law, Harry Auth, of Sonora; children and their spouses, Chandra and Derek Cholakian, of Salinas, Tyee Miles, of Georgetown, Tex., Cassia and Jessie Bloom, of Scotts Valley, and Christelle Harris, of Salt Lake City; grandchildren, Riley Cholakian, of Salinas, Devon and Ashton Bloom, both of Scotts Valley; siblings, Abby Carranza, of Salinas, Timothy Miles, of Detroit; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Gino Carranza, of Salinas, Alisa Drake, of Sonora, and Michael Neva, of Sonora.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Dambacher Mountain Memorial, 22394 Lyons Bald Mountain Road, Sonora.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Roberta May (Metzger) Carter Royse

March 4, 1929 — May 6, 2013

Sonora resident Roberta May (Metzger) Carter Royse died Monday at her home. She was 84.

Mrs. Royse was born in Wichita, Kan., to Josephine and Robert Metzger.

She married Vernon Royse and spent her life as a homemaker in Groveland.

Mrs. Royse was a member of the Church of Christ in Sonora, and was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous with 31 years of sobriety.

She enjoyed Native American culture, making pies, bird watching, gardening, camping and reading.

Mrs. Royse was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Royse; and a son, Bryan Betsworth; and her parents.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Connie Younge and William Daily, of Sonora, Robert and Gladys Betsworth, of Sacramento, Cheryl and George Pettit, of Crescent City, David Stetson, of Sacramento, Dolores and Norman Hill, of West Covina, Shirley and Arthur Brooks, of Arcadia, Jonnie and Wyatt Reader, of Groveland, Richard Royse, of North Vernon, Ind., Calvin Royse, of North Vernon, and Judy Gatrell, of North Vernon; 42 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Church of Christ, 14054 Tuolumne Road, Sonora.

Alice Jean (Terry) Segely

June 9, 1920 — May 2, 2013

Sonora resident Alice Jean (Terry) Segely died May 2 at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. She was 92.

Mrs. Segely was born in San Jose to Frank and Ida Terry.

She worked as a machinist for Burke Rubber Company for 20 years in San Jose and was a long-time member of the International Association of the Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

She retired to Sonora 28 years ago to enjoy mountain life.

Mrs. Segely was a Roman Catholic.

She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo and taking walks with friends.

Mrs. Segely was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Michael Segely; a son, Ronnie Segely; and her parents.

She is survived by her sister, Adeline Brindos, of San Jose; nephews, James Brindos, of Jamestown, Raymond Brindos, of Gardnerville, Nev., Joseph Novakovich Jr., of Tracy, and Jeffery McCormack, of San Diego; and niece, Barbara Harris, of Middletown.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Saint Elizabeth Church, 750 Sequoia Drive, Milpitas. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at Saint John’s the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, 651 Piedmont Road, Milpitas.

CAMPANA — A Rosary for James Peter Campana, 86, of Sonora, who died April 26 at Valley Care Hospital in Pleasanton, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Graham-Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First St., Pleasanton. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. the next day at St. Augustine’s Church, 3999 Bernal Ave., Pleasanton. A memorial reception will follow at Pleasanton Hotel, 855 Main St. Graham-Hitch Mortuary is handling arrangements.
