The Redskins are the 2013 Mother Lode League softball champions!

In the final game of the regular season Wednesday, Calaveras defeated cross-county rival Bret Harte 6-2 in Angels Camp. Meanwhile, the Linden Lions split a doubleheader with Summerville that same day, giving the Redskins sole ownership of the MLL title with a 12-3 league record.

Redskin ace Megan Walters struck out six batters in a complete game effort with no earned runs or walks. She also went 2 for 4 at the plate with a run scored and two RBIs.

The Bullfrogs took an early 1-0 lead after the first inning before five Calaveras runs in the third blew the game open for the Redskins. Bret Harte scored another run in home half of that inning, but that was it.

Also for the Redskins, Grace Carr went 2 for 3 including a triple and three runs scored, Kelly Volken 2 for 4 with an RBI and run scored and Marissa Hukkanen with a single and an RBI.

Calaveras faces Escalon of the Trans Valley League in the first round of the 2013 Sac-Joaquin Section Division V Softball Championships, Thursday, May 16, at Arnaiz Softball Complex in Stockton. The game is set to be played on field No. 3, with first pitch at 5 p.m.
