George A. Bittrolff

March 27, 1923 — April 19, 2013

Jamestown resident George A. Bittrolff died April 19 at his home. He was 90.

Mr. Bittrolff was born in New Jersey. 

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served aboard the destroyer, USS Nelson, escorting convoys across the North Atlantic and participating in the Sicily and Normandy invasions.

Mr. Bittrolff met his future wife, Margaret Smith, while they were both stationed in San Francisco during the Korean War.

He worked for Western Electric for 40 years, retiring as an associate engineer.

The couple retired to Jamestown in 1985. 

Mr. Bittrolff enjoyed baseball, bowling and the music and movies of the 1940s and ‘50s.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Pimentel, in 2007.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Bittrolff, of Jamestown; children, Suzanne Bittrolff, of Alameda, Melissa Villarante, of Alameda, Sheila Pimentel, of Sacramento, and George A. Bittrolff II, of Acampo; grandchildren, Nathan Villarante, of San Francisco, Brian Villarante, of New Orleans, Nick Villarante, of Las Vegas, Nev., Kalina Bittrolff, and Tyler Bittrolff, both of Acampo; and sister, Marie Zeigler, of New Hampshire.

No services will be held at his request. He will be interred at Sacramento Valley National Veterans Association Cemetery in Dixon.

Gerri Lynn Swiggart

Aug. 28, 1964 — April 23, 2013

Sonora resident Gerri Lynn Swiggart died of a heart attack April 23 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 48.

Mrs. Swiggart was born in Santa Clara to Lynn (White) and Rick Swiggart.

She worked as a certified nurse’s assistant and caregiver independently in the Sonora area.

Mrs. Swiggart was a volunteer for National Alliance on Mental Illness and the David Lambert Drop-in Center of Sonora.

She enjoyed going to the ocean.

She is survived by her partner of 10 years, Candi Blakley, of Sonora; her parents, Lynn and Rick Swiggart, of Sonora; and sisters, Gina Rodriguez, of Ceres, and Jodi Rerucha, of Temecula.

No services are planned at this time.

ROWMAN — Robert Rowman, 77, of Groveland, died Wednesday at his home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. 

SEGELY — Alice Segely, 92, of Sonora, died Thursday at Avalon Care Center. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. 

TRACY — A celebration of life potluck for James Tracy, 50, of Sonora, who died April 16 at his home, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Willow Springs clubhouse, 20522 Willow Springs Drive, Soulsbyville. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
