Drinking and driving do not mix

To the Editor:

Four innocent young people, between 16 and 21 years old, were killed when their car was hit by another car, a drunken driver who ran a red light (Monday, April 8, in the Fresno area).

No doubt, we will read more such stories as alcohol abuse is on the rise. The reasons for that are many, unemployment, worldwide tensions and moral decline are some. People seek distractions from their stress and often think they will find it in alcohol or drug use.

One the same page I found an ad for a wine tasting event benefitting an educational institution.

At a price of $50 or $60. In my view it is irresponsible and reprehensible to encourage such a fundraising event, where there may be no limit to the consumption of wine, especially having paid a considerable fee to participate. Who will drive home, potentially putting themselves and others, at risk? Hopefully nobody, but...who knows?

I would have posted this news item on the front page above the fold as a reminder to readers that drinking and driving don’t mix!

Worry about the future, not the past

To the Editor:

I recently heard Ms. Michelle Obama on a radio program saying every home in America should see the movie “42”, about the trials and hardships Jackie Robinson had to overcome in order to play baseball. She said it speaks a lot about our nation’s  history.

Well, in my opinion I think every home in America should see the movie “2016” which is about the state of our country after her husband is done with it.  Speaks a lot about our nation’s future!
