We should worry about drone use

To the Editor:

How long will it be, before Americans are targeted by American drones on American soil, without judicial review, trial or a jury of their peers?

Perusing the news this morning, two items popped out at me.

1) DHS Predator B Drones -Spec’d and ordered so they ‘“shall be capable of identifying a standing human being at night as likely armed or not” and also “equipped with “interception” systems capable of reading cell phone signals,” as reported at Breitbart.com.

2) The Attorney General is quoted at the Washington Examiner, as saying drone strikes on American Citizens on American soil are legal.

Those who have called me an alarmist, I beg to differ. The Predator B drones are exactly the same drones being used in Pakistan, Afghanistan and elsewhere. The only difference is the weaponization criteria.

That criteria is easy to fix, and is not a leap in logic. More like, just a small step backwards for mankind and this nation.

I could be wrong, but it looks like Thomas Jefferson was right, “The tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

I don’t suppose we as a nation have quite arrived at that point yet, or at least that would be my hope, however, I cannot take lightly the suggestion by the U.S. Attorney General that he has the right to execute an American on American soil, with no due process, no court, no judge, and certainly no jury of his peers.

This situation is intolerable, and I simply don’t believe the American people as a whole are willing to stand by and watch this happen. It also makes me wonder why the current Administration believes they can allow the information to go public and not suffer repercussions.
