Sonora Wildcat sophomore Bailey Henington was named to the First Team and head coach Amy Santos was awarded Coach of the Year for girls’ basketball in the Valley Oak League for the 2012-13 season.

Henington, a point guard, was the driving force behind a Wildcat team that went 18-8, including 10-4, third place in the VOL, and earned a No. 8 seed in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV Championships.

Henington led the Cats in scoring, assists and steals and deftly handled the ball in the face of defensive pressure.

Henington is the lone sophomore to make the First Team with the rest consisting of three seniors and three juniors.

Santos has guided the Cats into postseason in each of her first two seasons as Sonora’s boss. Her first season Sonora was on the road, but this year, the Cats earned a first-round home game.

Sonora senior Jessie Fong and sophomore Angela Gardella both made Honorable Mention. Fong was also named to the All-Defensive team.

Manteca’s Courtney Range was the consensus Most Valuable Player.

On the VOL First Team were: Emoni Wilson and Brianna White, both of Weston Ranch, Mickayla Hasal and Jasmine O’Dell, both of Manteca, Noni Kuumba, of Kimball and Loreal Taylor, of Lathrop.
