Dorothy Louise Cox

July 31, 1943 — Feb. 17, 2013

Tuolumne resident Dorothy Cox died Feb. 17 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 69.

Mrs. Cox was born in Oceanside to Richard Abilez and Margaret Josephine Goodwin.

She worked as a dental assistant at Mariposa Amador Calaveras Tuolumne (M.A.C.T.)  Health Board on the Tuolumne Rancheria for 15 years. 

She volunteered in various ways for the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians, mostly mentoring children, leading and teaching dances, and making dresses.

She enjoyed travelling.

Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Daniel Robert Cox; and sister, Margaret Peterson.

She is survived by husband of 54 years, Stanley Robert Cox Jr., of Tuolumne; children, Michael R. Cox, of Tuolumne, Kenneth A. Cox, of Tuolumne David W. Cox, of Soulsbyville; grandchildren, Kendra A. Cox, of Tuolumne, David R. Cox, of Sacramento, Kyle T. Cox, of Tuolumne, Brenden W. Cox, of Soulsbyville, Courtney L. Cox, of Tuolumne, and Tawnie J. Cox; and five great-grandchildren.

Services have been held.

Joy Irene (Monteith) Crow

June 19, 1928 — Feb. 22, 2013

Joy Crow, formerly of Groveland, died Feb. 22 at her home in Hamilton, Mont. She was 84.

Mrs. Crow was born in Colorado. She spent most of her life in San Diego and Groveland. In Groveland, she lived at the corner of the old Highway 120, at one time the historic Mueller Brewery.

Mrs. Crow was a member of the Sierra Rebekahs and did local volunteer work.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Deb Crow.

She is survived by her brother, Terry Monteith, of the San Diego area; sister, Myrna Douglas, of Newark, Ohio; children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. 

Private services were held.

Daly Leach Funeral Home in Hamilton handled arrangements.

Alma Erdine (Moore) Sneddon

Aug. 24, 1935 — Feb. 16, 2013

Sonora resident Alma Sneddon died Feb. 16 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 77.

Mrs. Sneddon was born in Whittier to Margery Stubbs and Ted Moore.

She married Ron Sneddon in 1954 and was a homemaker in Southern and Northern California, and Colorado. 

She owned a commercial art gallery, and did part-time work as an airport fixed-base operator.

She lived in Sonora for the last 13 years, moving with her husband for retirement.

Mrs. Sneddon enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ron Sneddon, of Sonora; children, Matthew Sneddon, of Glendale, Mark Sneddon, of Henderson, Colo., Eric Sneddon, of West Haven, Conn., and Bradley Sneddon, of Castle Rock, Colo.; grandchildren, Brandon Sneddon, of Golden, Colo., Colin and Hayley Sneddon, of Glendale, and Annabella Sneddon, of Henderson.

No services are planned.

Donna Joyce (Johnson) Smallwood

Feb. 18, 1938 — Feb. 18, 2013

Groveland resident Donna Smallwood died Feb. 18 in Sonora. She was 75.

Mrs. Smallwood was born in Cushing, Okla., to Jack and Martha Johnson.

She spent most of her life in Modesto working as a horse trainer.

Mrs. Smallwood retired to Groveland about seven years ago. She enjoyed horseback and ATV riding in the backcountry, and gardening.

She is survived by spouse Carroll Smallwood, of Groveland; children, Lorrie Mattox, of Modesto, Julie Mattox, of Knights Ferry, Stephanie Mattox, of Fallon, Nev.

No services are planned.
