Ronald Eugene Dodson

Sept. 25, 1946 — Feb. 4, 2013

Sonora resident Ronald Eugene Dodson died Monday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 66.

Mr. Dodson was born in Glendale to Virgil and Virginia Dodson.

He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969.

He worked as a correctional officer and was transferred to the Sierra Conservation Center in 1987 and moved to Sonora.

He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 391 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3154, and E Clampus Vitus in Sonora.

He enjoyed motorcycles and was a drummer for several bands.

Mr. Dodson is survived by wife, Laurie Dodson, of Sonora; daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Chris Oncale, of Port Barre, La., Shawna and Tony Hargis, of Sonora, and Charmaine Dodson, of Santa Rosa; sons and daughters-in-law, Sean and Rachael Dodson, of Farmington, N.M., Richard and Amber Lee, of Sonora, Brandon and Heather Lee, of Sonora; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Mernie Dodson, of Kenwood; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

A celebration of life will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday upstairs at Veteran’s Memorial Hall and Military Museum, 9 N. Washington St., Sonora.

Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Raúl C. Gamboa

Aug. 13, 1936 — Feb. 2, 2013

Sonora resident Raúl C. Gamboa died Saturday in Sonora. He was 76.

Mr. Gamboa was born in San Jose De la Boca, Mexico. 

He worked in the lumber industry for over 50 years, including at Sierra Pacific Industries for many years.

He enjoyed music, horseback riding, cattle roping, spending time in his flower garden, and volunteering for St. Patrick’s Parish.

Mr. Gamboa was preceded in death by a son, Raúl Gamboa. 

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beatriz Gamboa, of Sonora; children, Jose Vidal Gamboa, of Elk Grove, Alma Beatriz Gamboa-Applebee, of Chico, Jesus Manuel Gamboa, of Hamilton City, Maria Elia Barkley, of Stockton, and Carmen Gamboa, of Oakland; grandchildren, Bianca Eileen Applebee, of Chico, Gabriela Beatriz Applebee, of Chico, Ariana Nicole Gamboa, of Elk Grove, Diego A. Gamboa, of Elk Grove, and Mia Rae Barkley, of Stockton; siblings, Francisca Saucedo, of Tepehuanes, Mexico, Cristobal Gamboa and Rainulfo Gamboa, both of Chicago, Ill.

A visitation will be held 3 to 7 p.m. today, followed by a vigil, at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora. 

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Parish, 127 W. Jackson St., Sonora.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Oaklawn Memorial Park, 421 N. Sierra Ave., Oakdale, and a memorial service will be held 12:30 p.m. at Bethel Assembly of God, 105 E. G St., Oakdale.
