Dorothy Ann Higgins

March 3, 1919 — Jan. 26, 2013

Jamestown resident Dorothy Ann Higgins died Jan. 26 at her granddaughter’s home in Oakdale. She was 93.

Mrs. Higgins was born in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Tom and Teresa Dixon. She married Add Higgins and they moved to California, to eventually settle in Caruthers in Fresno County. 

They lived there most of their lives and ran a dairy. Mr. Higgins also owned Higgins Body and Paint. Mrs. Higgins spent her life as a homemaker.

She moved to Jamestown years after her husband and son died to be with her remaining son, Michael. 

Mrs. Higgins was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed playing the fiddle, poker and crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by husband, Add Higgins; and son, Van Higgins.

Mrs. Higgins is survived by son, Michael Higgins, of Jamestown; grandchildren, Christel Reagan, of Oakdale, and Michael Van Higgins, of Bakersfield.

A memorial service will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 16 at Rawhide Park Clubhouse, 8400 Old Melones Road, Jamestown.

Donations can be made in her memory to the Lions Club International Foundation, 300 W. 22nd St., Oak Brook, IL.

Robert Lee Mason

Nov. 26, 1939 — Dec. 21, 2012

Former Tuolumne County resident Robert “Bob” Lee Mason died Dec. 21 at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. He was 73.

Mr. Mason was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Robert Lee Mason and Della (Chapman) Mason and joined the U.S. Air Force at 18. 

After finishing four years of duty, he held various sales jobs before opening Mason’s Autoville in Hanford in Kings County around 1963.

 In the late 1960s, he started a career in real estate and was employed by numerous firms, including Avco Community Development, Boise Cascade and U.S. Land Management. 

He managed the original lot sales of Pine Mountain Lake and Lake Don Pedro, as well as Heritage Lakes in Illinois. 

Mr. Mason owned and operated Mason Realty in Groveland, from 1974 to 1982. He continued working in real estate in Tuolumne County and the East Bay Area, most recently at Prudential California Realty in Livermore.

He was a member of the former Hetch Hetchy Association of Realtors, Bay East Association of Realtors, and a former officer of the Tuolumne County Association of Realtors. 

Mr. Mason was a private pilot for years at Pine Mountain Lake Airport and enjoyed aviation. He also enjoyed playing guitar and singing at local events, and had his own band at one point.

Mr. Mason was preceded in death by his father in 1942; his mother in 1988; and his stepfather, Thomas Davis, in 1977.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Kathryn Mason, of Livermore; children and children-in-law, Barbara and Dan Barendregt, of Sonora, Kelli Mason, of Richmond. Va., Steve and Lisa Robillard, of Gaithersburg, Md.; stepchildren and children-in-law, Debra and Paul Silvas, Cindy and Ryan Orluck, and Robert Woods, all of Livermore; grandchildren, Trevor Barendregt, of Stockton, Matthew Barendregt, of Sonora, James Robillard, of Suring, Wis., Matthew, Kevin and Ryan Silvas, Bobby Woods, and Joey Orluck, all of Livermore, Paxton O’Bryen, of Richmond, and Kayli Woods, of Livermore.

A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pine Mountain Lake Country Club grill, 12765 Mueller Drive, Groveland.

Acacia Cremation and Burial Society in Antioch is handling arrangements.

Ralph ‘Lyle’ Montgomery

Jan. 20, 1930 — Jan. 23, 2013

San Andreas resident Ralph “Lyle” Montgomery died Jan. 23 at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital. He was 83.

Mr. Montgomery was born in French Camp to Edward Bryan and Pearl Belle Montgomery.  

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and became a sergeant before being discharged in 1953. He moved to San Andreas 57 years ago. Mr. Montgomery spent his life as a maintenance mechanic for Calaveras Cement Co. 

Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by brother, Ray Montgomery; sister, Opal Eldridge; and brother, Neill Montgomery.

He enjoyed all sports, and was a San Francisco 49ers fan.

He is survived by wife, Lou Montgomery, of San Andreas; children and their spouses, Cheryl and Dennis McComb, of Woodbridge, Carol and Jim McConnell, of Hurricane, Utah, and David Montgomery; siblings, Irene Harrington, of San Andreas, Sally and her husband Jack Lewis, of Apache Junction, Ariz. and Patsy Bowman, of San Andreas; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held.

Martha ‘Jean’ (Boyd) Worthy

May 23, 1925 — Jan. 25, 2013

Moccasin resident Martha “Jean” Worthy died Jan. 25 at her home. She was 87.

Mrs. Worthy was born in Forreston, Texas, to Eugene Boyd and Rhoda Ann (Turner) Boyd. She moved to California to be with her mother. 

She met and married Jess Worthy, who worked at Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, and the couple moved to that area, in Moccasin.

Mrs. Worthy worked in San Francisco as a computer operator for eight years and a key punch operator at Folger’s Coffee for some years. She spent other years as a homemaker.

She was a member of the Sonora Baptist Church and was active in church activities.

She was preceded in death by husband, Jess Worthy, in 1996; brother, Bill Boyd; and sister, Netta Thomas.

Mrs. Worthy is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Bobbye Scoggins, of Cottonwood in Tehama County; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Frank White, of Ashdown, Ark., and Janet and Ernie Yates, of Petaluma; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held.

TIRAPELLI — John Tirapelli, 61, of Mokelumne Hill, died Jan. 26 at his home. A service was planned for 11 a.m. today at Sutter Creek Catholic Cemetery, City Cemetery Road. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. 

VALENCIA — Wanda Valencia, 67, of Mokelumne Hill, died Jan. 25 at her home. A service was held Saturday at San Andreas Community Covenant Church. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
