The family of Capt. Lucas Gruenther, a Summerville High graduate and Air Force pilot, announced Thursday that his body was found in the Adriatic Sea.

Gruenther, 32, was chief of flight safety for the 31st Fighter Wing and stationed at Aviano Air Base in Italy. The base lost contact with Gruenther’s F-16 Fighting Falcon during a nighttime training mission over the Adriatic Sea Monday.

His wife, Cassy Gruenther, also a Summerville High graduate, is pregnant with the couple’s first child, Serene. She is in Italy with her mother Kerry Williams and Gruenther’s mother Romel Mathias, who lives in Twain Harte.
