JOB FAIR: Black Oak Casino and Resort will hold a job fair 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday for positions at its new hotel. For information, visit www.blackoakcasino.com.

With construction nearing completion and a management team in place, the new hotel at Black Oak Casino is looking to hire a full staff in the coming months.

Paul Medawar, the hotel general manager hired in the fall, said earlier this week that Black Oak will hold a two-day job fair at the casino’s Seven Sisters restaurant to fill between 50 and 60 positions.

The fair will be open to anyone looking for employment, with jobs available for almost 20 different positions including concierge, housekeeping, administrative assistants, reservations, clerks and other areas of operations.

“We hope to have a full payroll on board sometime in March,” said Medawar.

Management will be on hand viewing resumes, handing out applications and interviewing on the spot.

“We’re emphasizing they jazz up their resumes and make it look good,” he said. “Dress to impress.”

While the opening date is not ready to be announced, Medawar said they’re targeting a mid- to late-spring opening and taking some general guest reservations.

Construction has been under way for more than a year. When completed, the hotel is expected to include 148 rooms over four floors, including 30 suites, making it the largest hotel in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties. It will also have a fitness room and outdoor pool.

“Everybody is excited. Everybody can’t wait,” Medawar said.

The facility will also offer about 6,000 square feet of space in multiple rooms for meetings, conferences and other public events. Medawar said that feature has received a lot of public inquiry, especially from local organizations.

“A lot of businesses are interested in holding meetings there,” he said.

The hotel is the latest project for the growing Black Oak Casino, which was built 11 years ago by the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians.

The property also includes a 1,000-space parking garage, and construction was completed about a year ago on a gas station and mini-mart with the intention of serving tourists, local motorists and hotel guests.

Future plans also include a golf course and a housing development.

Black Oak Casino was built in 2001, in a 28,000-square-foot metal warehouse with 600 slot machines and six table games. Today, the 164,000-square-foot casino has 1,200 slot machines, 24 table games, a poker room, four restaurants, a stage for live entertainment, a bowling center and an arcade.
