Bear senior Krysta Calkins scored a game-high 22 points in the Summerville girl hoopsters’ 57-33 rout of the Delhi Hawks on Tuesday night.

The Bears built a 10-8 first-quarter lead on the Hawks and extended it to 26-15 at halftime.

Summerville outscored Delhi 21-3 in the third to give the Bears a 19-point advantage that helped them clinch their third victory of the 2012-13 season on the road.

“There was a lot of stuff going on early and we had to settle down,” said Summerville head coach Dave Woods. “We outscored them pretty good in the third quarter once we calmed down. (Delhi) tries to fast break all the time and get you in a frenzied pace.”

Also for Summerville, Ashley Gamber had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Bear senior Taylor Leslie also grabbed 11 boards and scored seven points, while Bobbi Devoto had eight points and seven rebounds.

Gamber and Leslie led the team with six steals apiece.

“It was nice getting everyone in the game to score a few points at the end,” said Woods.

Woods was concerned with the number of fouls called throughout the game as evidenced by the combined 79 free throw attempts between each team.

He said Summerville will need to work on that while preparing for their next game, which is against Central Catholic on the road Thursday.

“They’re tough,” he said. “We’re going to need a good practice tomorrow and play well Thursday.”
