Jessie Fong has found the zone.

The junior scored 18 points, including five 3-pointers, and also grabbed seven rebounds Tuesday to lead the Sonora Wildcat girls basketball team to a 52-38 victory over Riverbank at Bud Castle Gym.

Fong picked up right where she left off last weekend at the Lodi Tournament where she earned All-Tourney honors. She has tallied 54 points and hit 14 3-pointers in the last three games — all Sonora victories.

Sonora got good performances from several players.

Sophomore Leah Dambacher scored just one points but grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds, sophomore Bailey Henington scored 11 points, including a trey, while also making five steals and hauling in five boards, Stephanie Chung scored nine points, including a 3-pointer, and Angela Gardella scored seven points and grabbed nine rebounds.

But while the Cats pulled out the win, their boss would like to see a little more.

“It was a good win for us to beat a team in our division but we definitely could’ve played better,” said Wildcat head coach Amy Santos. “We weren’t very consistent. We’re learning something with each preseason game and hopefully that will pay off by the time league rolls around.”

Also for Sonora (6-2), Taylor Beebe scored four points and Bryanna Owens scored two points and grabbed six boards.

The Wildcats will look to run their win streak to four games next Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they head across the river to play the defending Sac-Joaquin Section champion Calaveras Redskins (5-1) in San Andreas.

JV—The Wildcats won 37-28.

For Sonora, Sandra Renda scored 17 points, Hannah Garrett added eight points, Adriana Carrera six, Elyse Quenneville three, Brooke Canepa two and Erin Campiotti scored one point.
