Gary Lee Hoffman

Dec. 19, 1947 — Nov. 17, 2012

Gary Lee Hoffman, 64, of Jamestown, died Nov. 17 at his home.

He was born to Rose Mae Cavalieri and George Mark Hoffman Jr., and lived most of his life in the Sonora area.

He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, Wash., in the clerical department of the Military Police division from 1969 to 1971, after which he returned to Sonora to begin a lifelong occupation as a mechanic.

Mr. Hoffman spent summers at Kennedy Meadows with his family and friends, where he taught his daughter to fish and play horseshoes, and to love and respect nature, his family said. 

He also enjoyed long getaways on his motorcycle throughout California and Nevada. His hobbies later in life included golf, and gardening with his dog, Shorty.

He is survived by his daughter, Dana Michelle Hoffman, of Capitola ; a grandson, Cody Blue Massat, of Capitola; a sister, Carolyn Miller, of Spring, Texas; and a brother, William Hoffman, of Wilseyville.

No services are planned. He will be cremated and his ashes spread in the Sierra Nevada.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

FOLETTI — Pietro Foletti, 93, of Sonora, died Friday at his Sonora home.  A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Sonora, with a reception to follow after at the Union Hill Inn in Columbia. 

KOHL — Former Twain Harte resident Helen “Tootie” Kohl, 86, died Nov. 6 at care home in Roseville. A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at All Saints Catholic Church in Twain Harte. 

MATEO — Greta Mateo, 81, of Murphys, died Friday at her home in Murphys. A memorial service will be held at noon, Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in Murphys. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. 

SIMPSON — Margaret Simpson, 65, of Jamestown, died Monday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, which is handling arrangements.
