‘Jimmer’ Ahrenholtz

Oct. 3, 1959 — Nov. 20, 2012

 James Douglas “Jimmer” Ahrenholtz died Nov. 20 at his home at South Shore Lake Tulloch, Jamestown, where he had lived for 10 years. He was 53.

He was born Oct. 3, 1959, in Fort Collins, Colo., the son of Donald and Juanita Ahrenholtz. 

He was a self-employed masonry contractor for 23 years. He enjoyed fishing and boating at Lake Tulloch and worked on many construction projects from Wyoming to California.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Jason Henegar.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Karalyn Ahrenholtz, of South Shore Lake Tulloch; three children, Sean Ahrenholtz and his wife, Tanya, of Minnesota, Joseph Ahrenholtz, of San Francisco, and Jessey Ahrenholtz, of South Shore Lake Tulloch; five grandchildren, Anthony, Kaylin and Kolton Ahrenholtz, of Minnesota, and Jason and Chance Henegar, of Modesto; a grandmother, Grace Winters, of Oakdale; six brothers and six sisters from Wyoming, Colorado and California, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Knights Ferry Community Hall, 17601 Main St., Knights Ferry.

Delbert Eugene ‘Sonny’ Durling

Dec. 18, 1937 — Nov. 21, 2012

Delbert Eugene “Sonny” Durling died Nov. 21 at his home in Tuolumne from complications from cancer. He was 74.

He was born on Dec. 18, 1937, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Rosie Harrison and Delbert L. Durling.

Mr. Durling and his wife of 49 years, Bonnie Durling, moved to their Apple Colony Road home in Tuolumne 42 years ago. He retired as a sawyer at the sawmill in Standard now owned by Sierra Pacific Industries.

He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army 23rd Infantry Regiment, Second Infantry Division, from 1953 to 1956.

His hobbies included fishing, woodworking, traveling, watching movies and camping with family. He was also a San Francisco 49ers fan.

Mr. Durling was preceded in death by his mother in 1981, his father, in 1988, a brother, Bobby Durling, in 1961, and a sister, Ellen Macias, in 2000.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bonnie Durling, of Tuolumne; three children and their spouses, Robby and Hilary Durling, of Tuolumne; Lynn and Pete Gookin, of Columbia; and Brian and Sandy Durling, of Sacramento; grandchildren, Gage Durling, Ryley Durling and Luke During, all of Tuolumne, Alana Gookin and Lynsey Gookin of Columbia, and Sierra and Samantha Durling of Sacramento; and siblings, Fred Durling, of Modesto, Barbara Coleman, of Vernal, Utah, Diane McCoy, of Modesto, and Mary Sharlene Minker, of Waterford.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tuolumne Baptist Church, 18426 Fir Ave., Tuolumne. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Donations may be made in his name to the Art Kiriluk Memorial Scholarship Fund at Summerville High School, 17555 Tuolumne Road. 

James Brown

May 1, 1928 — Nov. 8, 2012

James Brown, of Sonora, died Nov. 8 at the Veterans Administration Health Care System hospital in Palo Alto. He was 84.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Brown was born in Seattle, Wash., the son of Lester and Alice Brown. He retired after a 35-year career as a plumber. His hobbies included trains, waterskiing and motorcycles.

He was a 10-year resident of Sonora, where his favorite activities included having lunch at the Tuolumne County Senior Center, going to Perko’s for breakfast and practicing water aerobics three times a week.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Brown, of Sonora; a son, Dan Brown, of San Jose, a daughter, Delania Koval, of Copperopolis; a sister, Betty Ross, of Grady, Ark.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at Heuton Memorial Chapel in Sonora, and burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine.
