A bomb scare led to the evacuations of several offices in the Calaveras County Government Center in San Andreas on Monday. A county employee called the Sheriff’s Office around 1:40 p.m. to report a black duffel bag left lying on the ground near the government center’s bus stop. The bag had reportedly been unattended for more than an hour.
Sheriff’s deputies responded and moved pedestrian traffic back as members of the bomb squad inspected the bag with the use of a robot. X-rays of the bag taken at the scene showed what appeared to be jars and wires inside of a package, prompting authorities to expand the perimeter and evacuate the county counsel’s office, county administrator’s office and courthouse. A water disruption charge was used on the bag and it was determined that its contents were only food and clothing. The evacuation was lifted around 3:40 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office said. |
