Board of Supervisors: Hopeful dollars roll in

The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors race without an incumbent continues to be the local race drawing the most donations.

According to the most recent round of campaign finance disclosure forms, District 5 candidates Karl Rodefer and Domenic Torchia have raised more cash than candidates in other local races since July 1. 

 

Rodefer and Torchia are running for the seat now held by Supervisor Dick Pland, who is not running for re-election.

Financial forms filed with the county Elections Office show that Rodefer raised $6,872 in monetary contributions during the reporting period, which lasts through Sept. 30. Rodefer also paid out $2,000 for loans during the period, bringing overall contributions down to $4,872 for the period and putting his total year-to-date contributions to $36,601.

Rodefer has spent $1,289 since July 1, and $36,601 overall, according to financial forms.

Rodefer’s largest donations so far include $3,300 total from Jonathan Clark, owner of Armstrong, Clark and Co.; $400 from the county’s Republican Central Committee; $393 from retiree Donald Wilson; $310 from Sonora Subaru owner Ridge Schneider; $350 from retiree Roy Lane; $299 each from Carey Haughy and Pedro Lizaur, both of Blue Mountain Quarries; and $299 from $250 from the Tuolumne County Building Industry Association. He also has loaned a total of $9,000 to himself for the campaign to date, according to the finance paperwork.

Torchia raised $4,784 over the same period, bringing his total monetary and nonmonetary contributions for the year to $16,336. During the most recent reporting period, he spent $1,940 and has spent $8,980 overall.

Torchia’s biggest contributors so far include Operating Engineers Local 3 ($4,700), Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 443 ($1,000), Heat and Frost, Asbestos Workers Local 16 ($500), No Cal Carpenters Council ($400), retired State Sen. John Burton ($450), retired San Francisco District Attorney Arlo Smith ($375), Fremont Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski ($300) and educator Lynn Martin ($300).

Meanwhile, in District 1, challenger Sherri Brennan continues to out-raise incumbent Supervisor Liz Bass. But Bass also has picked up fundraising since July 1, as she has raised the most between the two in the most recent reporting period.

Bass has raised $3,543 in monetary contributions and $2,719 in loans to herself in the latest period, bringing her total contributions to $10,930, according to financial forms. She has spent a total of $10,581 on her campaign so far, including $6,415 in the latest reporting period.

Bass’ largest donations so far include $1,500 from the California Real Estate Political Action Committee, $600 from attorney Kate Segerstrom and $500 from sanitation company Waste Management.

Brennan has raised $2,442 over the latest period, bringing her total contributions to $20,313.36. She has spent a total of $17,087.

Among Brennan’s contributions to date are $1,000 from Weller Construction, $400 each from the local Republican Central Committee and Robert Coane, and $250 from the Tuolumne County Building Industry.
