Many local bowlers may remember PBA bowler Tony Reyes who made a few appearances at Black Oak during the annual Pro-Am. Unfortunately, Tony died in a tragic auto accident on Friday morning in the Bay Area.

Bowlers Trivia

Does the USBC have a rule about any substance on your shoe?

Answer at end of article.

According to the sanbruno.patch.com, the 38-year old San Bruno resident made the record books in 2006 when he bowled the 18th televised 300 game in PBA Tour history. He rolled the perfect game against Hall of Famer Parker Bohn III in the semifinal match of the Motor City Classic in Detroit — where he won his only Tour title.

For our local report, nobody really caught fire and had a career night.

Jared Ford led the youth bowlers with the high game and series (196/522) while Mahalia Ford rolled the top game and series for the girls (176/483). Zachery Kuhl and William Thomas both bowled over their average in series with 91 and 74 pins, respectively.

High Roller Warren Walker 695 bowled the top series and the men’s high game honors of 276, and 80 pins over his average, belongs to Bob Peters, also of High Rollers.

Not quite being able to repeat her efforts of last report, Amanda Klaahsen (Umchu Full House) still has the women’s high series with a 581, edging out Kathy Foote (Jokers Wild) who rolled a 562. Klaahsen has to share high-game honors (222) with leaguemate Barbara Persson.

Other notable scores for this report include: Gold Country Youth Adult—Dan Isam 672; SIRS—Dennis McKinney 670; Monday Nevada—Dan Isam 258; High Rollers—Tom Hendricks 256, Walker 254, Frank Gaspardi 254/678, Peters 665; Morning Rollers—Bruce Peterson 665, Mike Bowers 662; Young at Heart—Jim Simmons 665; Jokers Wild—Steve Feola 652; and Umchu Full House—Simmons 652.

Based on the available standings sheets, all league teams have lost at least one game. Well ... it was good while it lasted.

Trivia Answer: Yes and no. USBC Rule 12 prohibits the “use of any foreign substance on any part of the approach that detracts from the possibility of other players having normal conditions. This includes, but is not limited to talcum powder, pumice and resin on shoes and/or soft rubber soles or heels that rub off on the approach.” So if you put resin, or powder, or cigarette ash on your shoe soles to facilitate your slide ability and/or not sticking on the approach could be in violation of this rule, particularly if another bowler complains about the substance. These products do affect other bowlers and their shoes. As a footnote, rosin bags or powders should be kept at the table and not at the ball return.
