Robert George ‘Bob’ Calvert

Oct. 28, 1928 — Aug. 12, 2012

Jamestown resident Robert George “Bob” Calvert died Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 83.

Mr. Calvert was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to Harold and Opal Calvert. 

His family moved to Phoenix, where his stepfather worked in the mining industry, when he was about 9 years old. 

They moved to the San Gabriel Valley during his teen years. He lived in Venice, Culver City and Newberry Park before settling in the Sonora area 42 years ago.

Calvert worked for many years as an auto parts expert and salesman, and worked at shops including Merrihew’s Auto Parts and Napa Auto Parts. 

He also worked as a pilot driver for mobile home deliveries, Jim’s Christmas Trees during the holidays, and spent the past four years working surveillance at Chicken Ranch Casino.

He was a member Mother Lode Shriners Club, Aahmes Temple, East Belt Tuolumne Masonic Lodge No. 8 and a volunteer with the Jamestown Fire Department. 

He enjoyed all forms of motor vehicles, including cars, tractors and boats. 

He built his own sand buggy, which he enjoyed driving around Sand Mountain, Nev. He was restoring 1965 Chevrolet El Camino.

He enjoyed trips to the coast and Half Moon Bay with his wife, Joyce. 

Mr. Calvert was preceded in death by his daughters, Susan Stone, in April, and Cheryl Calvert, as an infant.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce Calvert, of Jamestown; his children, Linda Calvert, of Coalinga, and Kathy Egger and her husband, Gary, of Tuolumne; half-sister, Pat Brazell and her husband, Dennis, of San Diego; his grandchildren and their spouses, Larry “Buck” Stone Jr., of Groveland, Heather and Jess Burkett, of Tuolumne, Robert and Cori Smith, of Coalinga, Travis and Rebecca Alderman and Theresa Alderman, of Belgrade, Mont.; and seven great-grandchildren. 

Visitation is scheduled today from 1 to 5 p.m. at Heuton Memorial Chapel.

A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Mountain Shadow Cemetery in Sonora.

Susan Marie Jensen

Aug. 8, 1948 — Aug. 5, 2012

Sonora resident Susan Marie Jensen died Aug. 5 at Avalon Care Center of Sonora. She was 64.

Ms. Jensen was born in Palo Alto to Charles and Betty Jensen.

She graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City in 1966. 

She moved to the Sonora area 20 years ago to be closer to family. 

She managed a Subway sandwich shop for four years and worked in the Black Oak Casino cafe for four years until her illness.

Ms. Jensen was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her brother, Michael Jensen and his wife, Lorna; nephew Brian Jensen; niece, Katherine Jensen, all of San Carlos; her cousin, Linda Engles, of Michigan; and five great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sept. 9 at Pinecrest Lake.

Mary Catherine (Gogan) Kelleher 

Feb. 26, 1933 — Aug. 8, 2012   

Sonora resident Mary Catherine (Gogan) Kelleher died Aug. 8 at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. She was 79.

Mrs. Kelleher was born in Lynn, Mass., to Edmond and Edmay (Burke) Gogan.

She lived in Danville for many years before settling in Sonora with her husband, Philip, in 1998.

She enjoyed quilting, gardening and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Kelleher was preceded in death by husband, Phillip Kelleher, in 2003; her parents; and her sister, Eileen Swain.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Ken and Regina Kelleher, of Turlock, Laura and Brian Kelly, of Danville, Lee Ann and Michael Kjar, of Orinda, Kristin and Ken Lynch, of Oxnard, Kathy and Dave Feller, of Roseville, Amy and Ryan Meineke, of Danville, and Robert Kelleher, of Livermore; her sister, Claire Hemingway, of Tulsa, Okla.; and grandchildren, Kathleen, Allison, Jack, Sean, Joe, Andrew, Jonathan, Amanda, Holly, Sarah, Jacob, Ben and Joshua.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic Relief Services, www.crs.org, or the Humane Society, 2100 L Street, NW, Washington, D.C., 20037.

A Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Friday, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 18473 Gardner Ave., Tuolumne.

A service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, also at the church.

Marsha L. Mathews

Nov. 27, 1946 — Aug. 3, 2012

Sonora resident Marsha L. Mathews died Aug. 3 at Sonora Regional Medical Center long term care unit. She was 66. 

Ms. Mathews was born in Orange County. She moved to the Sonora area seven years ago to be near family. 

She had varying occupations throughout her life, including Black Oak Casino and Walmart. 

She enjoyed gardening, the ocean, animals and caring for children. 

Ms. Mathews was preceded in death by her father, Woody Mathews, in 1989.

She is survived by her mother, Faye E. Mathews of Twain Harte; her son and daughter-in-law, James and Cindy Morante, of Davis; granddaughters, Samantha and Taylor Morante, of Davis; her sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Don Moncrieff, of Twain Harte; and one niece and nephew. 

A memorial service was held Aug. 12. 

Her ashes will be scattered in the Bay Area at a later date.

McKEAN — Victor McKean, 83, formerly of Soulsbyville, died Tuesday in Hawaii. Kauai Memorial Gardens is handling the arrangements. 

ROLFE — A celebration of life for Leslie Rolfe will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Creekside Lodge at Dodge Ridge Ski Area in Pinecrest. Mrs. Rolfe died May 20 at her home in Groveland at age 84.
