‘Chris’ Hyde

Oct. 27, 1961 — July 18, 2012

Jamestown resident John Christopher “Chris” Hyde died Wednesday in a motorcycle accident in Chinese Camp. He was 50.

Mr. Hyde was born in Oroville to John and Faye Hyde. 

He graduated from Sonora High School in 1979. He worked as a contractor and owned his own business. He built numerous homes in the Groveland and Pine Mountain Lake areas. He assisted in building the Groveland library and museum. He worked for the City and County of San Francisco in Moccasin for the past seven years. 

He was a master carpenter. He enjoyed the outdoors, vegetable gardening, sports, playing pool, fishing, boating, and motorcycle riding. 

Mr. Hyde was preceded in death by his mother, Faye Hyde, in 1983; and his father, John Hyde, in 2008.

He is survived by his siblings, Debra M. Hyde, of Ventura, Pamela Hyde, of Groveland, and Lori Hyde, of Groveland; and several nieces and nephews. 

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Groveland.

Jean (Schulte) Irwin 

Aug. 28, 1929 — July 18, 2012

Sonora Hills resident Jean (Schulte) Irwin died Wednesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 82. 

Mrs. Irwin was born in St. Paul, Minn., and moved to Sonora 27 years ago with her husband, Robert Irwin, after he retired from the U.S. Forest Service. 

She worked as a marriage and family counselor with Sonora Mental Health Services and in private practice for 15 years. 

She was a member of several organizations through the Sonora Hills retirement community, including a book club, chorus and Columbia Kate’s Lunch Bunch. She enjoyed reading and writing and was a member of Inklings Writing Club. She had been a member and president of Unity Church. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women. 

Mrs. Irwin is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert Irwin, of Sonora; her children, Linda Gehres, of Arnold, Dana Fox, of Sebastopol, and Robert Irwin, of Sonora; her brothers, Robert Schulte, of Petaluma, and Richard Schulte, of Roseville; and her grandchildren, Ross Irwin, of Sonora, James Franklin, of San Francisco, and Jefferson Irwin, of Wilson, Wyo.

ZIEGENHEIN — A graveside service for Mary Jane Ziegenhein will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mountain Shadow Cemetery on Lyons Bald Mountain Road in Sonora. A potluck dinner at the Sonora Elks Lodge will immediately follow. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
