Harriet Dallinger

April 16, 1919 — May 15, 2012

Harriet Dallinger, of Angels Camp, died May 15 at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital after a brief illness. She was 93.

Mrs. Dallinger was born in New York City, the daughter of Sarah Young and Barney Young. When she was 8 years old, she and her family moved to Los Angeles, where she remained for the next 67 years. She and her husband moved to Angels Camp in 1994.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nat Dallinger, a renowned Hollywood press photographer from the late 1930s through the early 1960s. They were married for 66 years.

She is survived by her sister, Lynn Schroeder, of Palm Springs; her daughter and son-in-law, Antoinette and Dr. William M. Griffin, of Angels Camp; her son, Timothy G. Dallinger, of Los Angeles; and grandchildren, Brett Dallinger, of Los Angeles, and Katie Jo Dallinger, of Paris, France.

Services will be private. 

Angels Memorial Chapel handled arrangements.

Marlene Ann McFall

July 16, 1935 — May 29, 2012

Marlene Ann McFall, of Camanche, died Tuesday at her nephews home in Ione, more than six years after being diagnosed with cancer. She was 76.

She was born to John Louis Cavagnaro and Edith Louise Cavagnaro on the family ranch in Camanche. She worked for many years at a bank in San Andreas. Other interests included cows, dinners out and her extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Don McFall.

She is survived by her nephew and his companion, Tony Cavagnaro and Mike Neuschwanger; and her great-nephew, Zachary Cavagnaro-Jackson, all of Ione.

A rosary and visitation will be held today from 3 to 6 p.m. at San Andreas Memorial Chapel. Mass and visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in San Andreas. 

Burial will be at Peoples Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church hall. 

Donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Amador and Calaveras, P.O. Box 595, Jackson, CA 95642.

Lloyd ‘Whitey’ Rountree

Jan. 17, 1926 — May 3, 2012

Former Mother Lode resident Lloyd “Whitey” Rountree, of Milwaukie, Ore., died May 3 at  his home. He was 86.

He was born in Norton, Kan., the son of Leo and Vada Rountree. He attended school in Columbia and served as a ball-turret gunner in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 21 missions over Germany in World War II.

He worked most of his life in the cement business, from driving trucks to managing the Calaveras Cement Distribution Plant until his retirement in 1989. His family said he liked to hunt and fish, go on trips in his RV, tinker with his cars and work in his garden.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Valerie, of Milwaukie, Ore.; his sister, Betty Basye, of Eugene, Ore.; daughters, Diana DePeel, of Gladstone, Ore., and Janet Gerling and her husband, Tim, of Salem, Ore.; grandchildren, Sean Mole, of Albany, Ore., and Kathryn Glaser, of Salem, Ore.; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Milwaukie. 

Inurnment was private at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. 

Stehn Family Chapels of Portland and Milwaukie handled arrangements.
