T-Wolves split with Ben Holt; Will face Valley Christian in playoffs

The Tioga Timberwolves baseball team earned a playoff berth by finishing second in the Mountain Valley League.

The Timberwolves will play Valley Christian, the No. 1 seed out of the Sacramento Metro Conference, on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at McAuliffe Memorial Ballparks in Sacramento.

 

 

The Timberwolves finished the regular season last Wednesday by splitting a doubleheader with Ben Holt Academy.

After losing 17-2 in the opener, Tioga earned a 6-5 victory in the nightcap.

In Game 2,  Tioga’s Jon Hilton earned the pitching victory hurling six strong innings.

Johny Amoruso relieved Hilton in the seventh inning and recorded the save.

For Tioga, Angelo Amoruso went 1 for 2 with a solo inside-the-park home run, Tyler Mann went 2 for 3, Hilton went 1 for 3 and Josh Pollock and Garrett Puerto both had sacrifice RBIs.

In the first game, Johny Amoruso led off with a walk in the top of the first inning and Austin McKinsey plated him for a short-lived 1-0 lead.  

In the third, Angelo Amoruso led off with a walk and Tyler Mann ended up driving him home with a single.  

For Tioga, McKinsey went 2 for 2 with an RBI, Angelo Amoruso went 1 for 1, and Mann went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
