The Sonora City Council on Monday will vote on whether to seek bids for a $230,000 street-paving project. City Engineer Gerard Fuccillo is recommending a total of 1.5 miles of streets be paved.
The proposed project is separated into two phases because the Central Valley Independent Network’s fiber-optic cable project — scheduled to begin sometime this summer — will affect portions of Barretta and Norlin streets. The streets proposed for paving overlays early this summer are Woods Creek Drive and Snell Street. Work would begin on Brookside Place and Barretta, Norlin, Otis, and Golden streets following the completion of the fiber-optic cable project in late summer. All of the streets selected for paving overlays have not had maintenance work done to them in 20 to 30 years, according to meeting documents. Fuccillo notes in his memo to the council that the project would nearly deplete the money left in funds from the Regional Surface Transportation Program and the Transportation Development Act. Fuccillo recommends the council approve the list of streets for paving and authorizes advertising the project for public bid. It is intended that bids be taken on May 29, so that the project can be awarded at the June 4 City Council meeting, the memo states. The council will also: • Consider adopting a resolution that would approve additional street closures, permit parking location and no parking designations to accommodate the Amgen Tour of California Stage 4 Start on May 16. • Hear a presentation by Larry Cope, director of the Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority, regarding the EDA’s preliminary budget estimate for Fiscal Year 2013, which would require the city pay $1,215 more than last year. |
