SPA meets
on Tuesdays

Sierra Professional Association meetings are held every Tuesday at 7 a.m. at the Pine Tree Restaurant, 19601 Hess Ave., Sonora.

The next meeting will be May 8 and will feature Steve Cambra, High Sierra Steam Cleaning, and Jessi Leveroos, Edward Jones Investment.

Books sought for event 

Tracy Hoyle, owner of Sonora Used Books, is collecting children’s books to hand out at Sonora’s Trick or Treat Street the Saturday before Halloween. 

Children’s books in good condition can be dropped off at Sonora Used Books during store hours, which are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. 

Hoyle said the books are mainly going to kindergartners and preschoolers. This is the third year she’ll hand out books for Treat Street. 

“It’s a chance to get books into children’s hands,” Hoyle said. 

The book store is located at 21 S. Washington St. For more information, call 532-1884.

Sierra Mac group to meet

The Apple family of “iThings” will be explored when the Sierra Macintosh Users Group meets May 8.

The group is shifting to its warm-weather meeting place for a 7 p.m. session in the assembly room of the Ebbetts Pass Fire District, 1037 Blagen Road, Arnold.

Brian Thomas, technology specialist and trainer for the Calaveras County Office of Education will lead the discussion.

SMUG meets the second Tuesday of each month. Meetings are open to everyone and there is no charge to attend. Annual club dues are $15.

Humane Society board members are needed

The Humane Society of Tuolumne County has two open positions on its board of directors.

Needed are members with knowledge and skills in capital campaigns, education, fundraising event planning, grant writing, research and social networking, said Jean McClymonds, treasurer of the board of directors and finance and administrative director of the shelter.

“Over the last two years, we have brought about meaningful change in our board composition, dynamics and culture,” she said. “Continuing to create this climate of change through ongoing communication and engagement of the board will help us sustain and increase our overall efforts on behalf of the animals entrusted to our care.”
