Ahnawake Avilla
Jan. 16, 1935 — Feb. 17, 2012

    Former Tuolumne County resident Mary Ahnawake Avilla died Feb. 17 at a Modesto hospital. She was 77.
    Mrs. Avilla was born in Fayetteville, Ark., and her family moved to Modesto where she was raised. In 1959, she and her husband, John “Vic” Avilla, moved to Tuolumne County and raised their three sons.
    Mrs. Avilla had many interests and hobbies.
    She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, John “Vic” Avilla, in 1984; her son, Mike Avilla, in 1999; and her parents, J.C. and Della Barnett.
    Mrs. Avilla is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, John and Julie Avilla, of Jamestown, and Steve and Susie Avilla, of Sonora; her daughter-in-law, Jenell Avilla, of Escalon; sisters, Quayte Pittman and Wanda Bullard, of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Aileen Combs, of Modesto, and Carol Barlow, of Stockton; grandchildren, Jackie and Kevin Alberto, of Sonora, Jaime Avilla and Jessica Avilla, of Merced, Sarah and Nolan Calcagano and Brian Avilla, of Escalon, Tami Avilla, of Sonora, Brock Johnson, of Sacramento, and Kyle and Samantha Smith, of Loveland, Colo.; and five great-grandchildren.
    A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Homewood Village Mobilehome Park, Aloha Clubhouse, 2000 Mable Ave., Modesto.
    Eaton Family Funeral and Cremation Service of Modesto handled arrangements.

Eva (Davis) Reed
Jan. 8, 1920 — Feb. 19, 2012

    Longtime Sonora resident Eva (Davis) Reed died Feb. 19 at her home. She was 92.
    Mrs. Reed was born in Arkansas and was a homemaker for 71 years. She lived in Sonora for 39 years. Mrs. Reed enjoyed gardening and quilting.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Donathan Reed, in 1979; and her son, Dean Reed, in 2008.
    Mrs. Reed is survived by daughters, Barbara Whitt, of Sonora, Lynda Brantley, of Tuolumne, and Nell Griffin, of Michigan; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
    A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Mountain Shadow Cemetery.
    Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Mae Selesia
Sept. 22, 1921 — Feb. 17, 2012

    Longtime Tuolumne County resident Mae Selesia died Feb. 17 at Casa Viejos in Jamestown. She was 90.
    Ms. Selesia was born and raised in Sonora. In 1953 when she moved to Stockton.
    She worked as a registered nurse for 40 years and during World War II served in the U.S. Army. Ms. Selesia kept a home in Sonora while living in Stockton and returned to the county full-time four years ago.
    Ms. Selesia was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sonora and the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Stockton.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Claude Selesia, Raymond Selesia and Victor Selesia; and sisters, Delfine Selesia, Enis Selesia and Flora Davidson.
    Ms. Selesia is survived by her nephew and his wife, Randall and Linda Selesia, of Sonora; grandnephews Scott, Clay, Josh and Donnie Selesia, all of Sonora; and numerous great-grandnieces and nephews.
    Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Heuton Memorial Chapel.
    A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with burial to follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.
    Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
