Two open houses will feature Calaveras County Christmas traditions and wines as the holiday season kicks into high gear.
The festivities will begin when the Murphys Business Association hosts the annual Murphys Open House from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2. The event will feature the lighting of the town tree, carolers, visits with Santa and a bevy of Main Street merchants offering complimentary beverages and appetizers.
The community parade begins at 5:30 p.m. A long-time favorite get-together for both locals and visitors alike, the Murphys Open House is a great opportunity to experience the town’s famed ambiance and shop locally for the holidays.
On Saturday, Dec. 3, Calaveras County wineries will be showcased during the annual Holiday Festival of Wines taking place 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at all Calaveras Winegrape Alliance member wineries. A sampling of offerings includes sparkling wine mimosas paired with holiday appetizers and 15 percent discounts on case purchases at Stevenot Tasting Room, European melted Raclette cheese at Lavender Ridge, and savory snacks and holiday wine specials at Chatom Vineyards. Frog’s Tooth Vineyards offers live music, wine discounts and will be open late both nights.
Hosted by the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance, the Festival of Wines offers get-into-the-mood holiday music, culinary delights and award-winning Calaveras wines.
“The Festival of Wines is a great way to sample what Calaveras Wine Country has to offer, as well as opportunities for great one-time savings on wine,” said Carrie Nelson, Winegrape Alliance administrator in a press release. “Over the years the event has grown and gained an excellent reputation for creating the perfect pairings of food and wine to celebrate the Holiday Season.”
