Fire damaged one storage unit and smoke damaged 27 more units at Bret Harte Mini Storage in Murphys, a fire captain said Friday.

The fire was reported about 9:30 p.m. Thursday at 301 Bret Harte Drive near Murphys Creek Road, Capt. Bill Smith with Murphys Fire Protection District said in a phone interview.

“The fire was confined to one unit,” Smith said. “There was one on fire when we first arrived and we stopped it from getting to any other units.”

The damage summary was one unit with fire damage and 27 units with smoke damage, Smith said.

The cause of the fire was undetermined and it remained under investigation Friday.
