Here’s some options on how to usher in 2018 in the Mother Lode:

• The Sonora Elks Lodge will host its 12th annual New Year’s Eve Party, with a theme of an “Evening in Paris,” from 5 to 11 p.m. Sunday at the Elks Lodge, 100 Elk Drive in Sonora. The event will include live music by The Rusty Rockers, dinner (prime rib or salmon), champagne toast, prizes and a cash raffle. Tickets are $45 per person, and are available by calling (209) 736-2310 or 533-1587.

• The 21st annual New Year’s Eve Barn Dance will kick off at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Aronos Hall in downtown Sonora. Typically, contra dances are held in the hall on the third Saturday of each month, but in December the monthly dance becomes a New Year’s celebration. “I believe we are one of the only alcohol-free, family-oriented events on New Year’s Eve,” said organizer Sue Endter. Sunday’s dance will feature square dances, contra dances and circle dances to live old-time music. Singles, couples and families are welcome, and no partner or experience is necessary. Those attending are asked to bring a snack or non-alcoholic beverage to share. Admission is $7 adults ($3 for adults younger than 25) and $1 for children. For more information, call (209) 768-4083.

• Bear Valley Resort will host a New Year’s Eve Extravaganza featuring a balloon drop at midnight followed by fireworks. Live music by Chains Required begins at 9 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $25 adults, $15 children younger than 13. Visit for more information.

• Black Oak Casino Resort in Tuolumne will host cover band Gotcha Covered in the Willow Creek Lounge at 9 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10, and available at the Gift Basket. There will also be free entertainment Sunday at the casino. For additional venues hosting New Year’s music, see this week's issue of Weekender.
