The second workshop, “Proactive Parenting,” will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at the learning center. The goal is to teach parents how to avoid reacting and instead be proactive in guiding a child’s behavior.

The workshop is co-sponsored by ICES and Raising Healthy Families.

To RSVP for either class, call (209) 533-0377. Limited childcare is available, so arrangements should be made early by calling the same number.

Emergency preparedness
subject of workshop

The American Red Cross on Sunday will host a free, family friendly emergency preparedness workshop at the Red Cross Blood Donor Center on Sanguinetti Road in Sonora.

The community outreach event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will focus on safety and preparedness by teaching hands-only CPR, what items to store in a go-kit, how often to test smoke alarms and more. Representatives from local fire departments and law enforcement agencies will also provide safety information.

Refreshments, a prize drawing, and visits with Santa, who will hand out gifts (while supplies last), will also be a part of the event.

Cancer support
for women offered
in Groveland

A support group for women with cancer meets twice a month in Groveland.

The Groveland Women’s Cancer Support Group meets from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays at the Groveland Library.

The group is open to everyone, from the recently diagnosed to survivors, and offers support, sharing and resources in a confidential and caring environment.
