The Calaveras Children’s Dental Project is beginning its 20th year of providing preventive dental services to the children of Calaveras County.
Laurie Perry, program director, said the organization will offer preventive dental services for county children from birth through third grade during the school year.
The program is administered by the Calaveras County Office of Education and offers dental screenings, cleanings, fluoride varnish application and oral health education.
“It can be quite a challenge to obtain dental services in Calaveras County,” Perry said. “Our goal is to identify dental issues, educate families and assist families in obtaining dental treatment.”
Calaveras County has one clinic, the MACT clinic in San Andreas, that accepts Medi-Cal patients.
In the past, the Calaveras Children’s Dental Project has made possible dental care through various mobile dental van organizations and will continue to do so this year if qualified van providers are located.
The Calaveras Children’s Dental Project recently was awarded funding for 2017-18 from First 5 Calaveras, Delta Dental Foundation and the Calaveras County Office of Education.
