Red Cross seeks ‘heroes’
The American Red Cross is seeking nominations of people who have show dedication and character through “extraordinary acts of heroism and kindness” for its celebration of “100 Years of Heroes.”
Although some individual chapters throughout the region existed before 1917, new chapters and existing Red Cross members around what is now the Gold Country region united that year in a single mission: supporting World War I soldiers overseas and at home. It was in 1917 that action and strong leadership from Red Cross National Headquarters drew members together, and the Red Cross as we know it today was born in the area, stated a press release.
Outstanding individuals will be honored at “100 Years of Heroes” throughout the year.
A nomination form and rules can be found online at www.redcross.org/local/california/gold-country. class="Apple-converted-space">
Deadline for nominations is Aug. 8.
