NAMI family meeting tonight in Sonora

The National Alliance on Mental Illness will hold a Family to Family Education meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Sonora.

The meeting will be held at the Tuolumne County Enrichment Center, 101 Hospital Road.

Survivors of suicide
get support

A new support group, Survivors of Suicide Loss, meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

Meetings will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at 18415 Blue Bell East.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and group leaders said in a press release they “cannot think of a more appropriate time or way to emphasize the need for such awareness than to announce the formation of a new peer-led support group in our community.”

The group is intended to be a safe place for people who have lost a loved one to death by suicide, enabling them to openly and honestly discuss how they lost the loved one, and what the loss has cost them and others.

For more information, contact Kathy or Guy Holmes at (209) 532-1328 or (209) 559-0332.

Depression help
offered to older adults

People 60 or older who are experiencing symptoms of depression can receive up to 12 weeks of free in-home counseling or peer support.

The Mother Lode Office of Catholic Charities’ SPARROW Project offers the help as part of a University of California, San Francisco-affiliated research project.

For more information, call (209) 532-7632.
