Foothills shooters on target at MLGC

The Mother Lode Gun Club Nuggets won seven of the nine available divisions Saturday at the California Youth Shooting Sports Association's third meet of the year held in Jamestown.

Summerville Sporting Club, Sonora High Trap Club and the Nuggets took part in the competition held at the Mother Lode Gun Club.

Rookie Nugget Garrett Castonia shot a personal best score 82 out of 100 on his way to placing first in his division.

Josh Weinberger, of Sacramento, was second with 78, while another Nugget, Dean Taylor, was third with a 67.

Taylor's teammate, Ryder Whitman, was close behind with a 66.

In the Intermediate Entry Level division, Nugget David Cazeras shot a personal best with a 96 to finish first and also shot 25-straight in his third round. Third in the division was fellow Nugget Craig Amos with a 90.

The Nuggets swept the Intermediate Advanced division, with teammates Dylan Hicks and Justin Pfeifer tying for first place with scores of 95.

In their shoot-off, Hicks edged Pfeifer 24-23. Taylor Anderson finished just behind her teammates, taking third with a score of 94. Also of note, Nuggets Nathaniel Nye and Tyler Corum shot a personal best of 92 and his first perfect 25, respectively.

Sonora High's Zane Hedgpeth continued to shoot well in the Varsity division, taking first place with a 98.

Summerville teammates Matt Roberts and James Walker both tied for second with 95s.

After two shoot-offs, Roberts was finally able to pull ahead 25-23 and take second. Walker also shot his first 25-straight in his second round of the day.

In the Junior Varsity division, Sonora High's Colton Vines finished first for the third straight time as he shot a 96.

Summerville's Colby Dibble finished third with an 89.

The teams will travel to Angels Camp on Saturday for their fourth competiton of the season.
