Wildcats rally for 4 in 7th to beat Bullfrogs

The Sonora baseball team scored four runs in the top of the ninth and the Wildcats earned a come-from-behind 7-5 non-league victory over Bret Harteon Tuesdayin Angels Camp.

Sonora had only four hits, but knocked in five runs. Both Evan Estes and Tyler Casteel recorded a hit and each drove in two runs. Garrett Bozzo and Eric Gilliatt had the other Wildcat hits.

Sonora took a 3-1 lead after the second, but were shutout by Bret Harte until the final inning. Bret Harte gained its first lead of the game, 4-3, when the Bullfrogs tacked on three runs in the third. They added another in the fourth and held onto a two-run advantage before Sonora's late rally.

Bullfrog senior Jake Bailey went 3 for 4 and drove in a run. Wyatt Hockett, Tyler Tafjen, Camren Herrin and Kyle Olsen all had a hit. Tafjen blasted a triple and Olsen a double.

Casteel, the winning pitcher, threw four innings, retired four on strikes and gave up just one earned run in. Estes tossed three and struck out a game-high seven.

For the Bullfrogs, Austin Miguel pitched a team-best three innings and fanned four.

Bret Harte (3-4) opens Mother Lode League play today when it hosts Summerville at3:30 p.m.in Angels Camp.

Sonora (5-2) will hit the roadon Saturdayto face Escalon at2 p.m.
