Frogs roundup: Bret Harte swimmers split with Linden; Baseball falls at McNair

The Bret Harte boys and girls swim team split two meets against Linden in its Mother Lode League Openeron Fridayin Angels Camp.

The boys topped Linden 103-66 and the girls fell 88-82.

"Bret Harte swam extremely well, and as always, Linden had a number of outstanding swimmers that pushed our athletes to swim their personal bests all day," said Bullfrogs head coach Lauren Gerber.

The Bullfrog girls relay team of Shelby Warner, Bethanni Riedel, April Johnson and Kaitlyn McCratic placed first and also set a Sac-Joaquin Section qualifying time.

McCratic, a sophomore, finished first in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events.

Bullfrog junior Joey Hecocks placed first in the 200 freestyle and shaved six seconds off his previous personal best. Sophomore Austin Qualls took three seconds off his 100 breaststroke time and earned a first-place finish.

The Bret Harte boys 400 freestyle relay team of Colin Boblet, Hecocks, Jordan Johnson and Brennan Thompson finished first.

Bret Harte (1-0 MLL) will next host Amador/Argonauton Wednesday at 4 p.m.in Angels Camp.

Bret Harte softball ties Ben Holt Academy, 11-11

Bret Harte slugger Elle Burton blasted a team-high four hits and drove in four runs, but it wasn't enough, and the Bullfrogs softball team tied Ben Holt Academy, 11-11, in a non-league gameon Thursdayin Angels Camp.

Sydney Davis started on the mound for Bret Harte and threw five innings and struck out six. Shaelan Kelly was 2 for 2, including a double. Breanna Ziehlke went a 1 for 1 with two runs and two walks.

The Bullfrogs open Mother Lode League play when they host Summervilleon Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.in Angels Camp.

Bullfrogs outhit McNair, but fall in Stockton, 10-6

The Bret Harte baseball team recorded a game-high seven hits and scored in four innings, but lost to McNair 10-6 in a non-league gameon Fridayin Stockton.

McNair led 7-0 after three innings, and that advantage was too much for the Bullfrogs to overcome.

Bret Harte scored at least one run in the last four innings, including three in the fifth, but were undone by six errors.

Bullfrog senior Wyatt Hockett went 2 for 4 hitting with an RBI. Austin Miguel batted 2 for 4 and drove in two runs. Camren Herrin, Boyce Small and Jake Bailey each had a hit. Kyle Kraft and Herrin each added a RBI.

The Bullfrogs (3-3) will host Sonoraon Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.in Angels Camp before opening Mother Lode League play against Summervilleon Fridayin Tuolumne.
