Dodge Ridge closes, cites lack of snow

Dodge Ridge closed for the season at the end of businessSundaydue to lack of snow, according to a press release.

The Dodge Ridge Mountain Operations determinedSundaymorning that additional snowfall would be required to continue with normal operations.

"Though this decision is a difficult one to make with the great conditions still available on the upper mountain, ultimately with the forecast of unseasonably warm weather and no chance of significant snowfall in the near future, we felt it was best to close," said Dodge Ridge marketing director Jeff Hauff in a press release.

But the winter sports resort is holding out hope of re-opening should winter return. If more snow falls, and none is in the immediate forecast, the resort will crank up the lifts.

With just 159 inches of snow on the upper mountain, when 300 is average, the resort has had a tough battle maintaining snow at the base area. Snow was farmed in from nearby Crabtree Road that helped connnect the base to the upper mountain as well as make available beginner terrain.
