Summerville's Andrew Brennan and Humphrey Quirie, Bret Harte's Justin Barnes and Calaveras' Tylor Gonsalves and Jacob Abeyta won individual championships Saturday at the Division V wrestling tournament at Delhi High School.

In all, Calaveras qualified nine for the Masters meet on Friday and Saturday, Summerville four and Bret Harte two.

Brennan, a 126-pound senior and a 2013 State qualifier, dispatched all four of his opponents on his way to the title.

"Andrew took care of business like we expected him to do," said Bears head coach Jordan DePaoli. "He wasn't completely pleased with how he wrestled, he thought he could do better, which is a good thing. He's got his eye on that State berth."

Quirie, a 152-pound junior, avenged last week's loss to Linden's Kevin Holtberg in the Mother Lode League championship match.

Quirie, like Brennan, won all four matches, including a 4-2 victory in the final.

"I'm so proud he avenged his loss from last week," DePaoli said. "He feels he is the better wrestler and he proved that. This really will give him confidence that he can win close matches. He has that experience which will help him out next week because all the matches from here should be close. He has a legitimate shot at making State."

Bears freshmen Zach Marquez (138) and Devin Conklin (113) each won four out of five matches to earn third place in their repsective weight classes.

"Qualifying for Masters in their freshman years is huge for the rest of their career here at Summerville," DePaoli said. "It will be a huge advantage for them and it will be a heck of an experience."

Barnes, the Bullfrogs unquestioned leader, continued his march to State with four wins in four matches. The 160-pound senior will he highly-seeded heading into Masters.

Bret Harte teammate Lyford Morris, at 132 pounds, couldn't avenge his loss from last week to Argonaut's Caleb Patrick. Morris had to settle for second place, but maybe will get another shot this weekend.

The Redskins, fresh off their team duals Division V title and their Mother Lode League championship, qualified an amazing nine led by title winners senior Tylor Gonsalves (120) and freshman Jacob Abeyta (106). Each wrestler swept all four matches.

Also qualifying for Calaveras were, Jason Stokkeland (138, fourth), Alex Rajewski (145, second), Ayden Garcia (170, fourth), Logan Sullivan (182, second), Maxfield Smith (195, second), Shane Torre (220, fourth) and Jared Kirk (285, third).
