Three Sonora Wildcats scored in double figures, but the boys' basketball team fell to Lathrop 62-58on Fridayduring Winterfest at Bud Castle Gym.

Wildcat Kahale Warring led the team with 20 points on 64 percent shooting and point guard Will Collamer drained 17. Kyle Wolfe added 12.

"The kids played hard," said Sonora head coach Dan Dona. "Their attitude is fight for everything, and I'm pleased with that."

Tied 15 all after the opening period, Sonora outscored Lathrop in the second to head into halftime with a slim 32-29 advantage.

But in the third quarter, Lathrop dropped 12 points to Sonora's nine.

And from there, the Spartans were able to slowly pull away.

Lathrop closed out the Valley Oak League contest with 21 points in the final stanza. Sonora netted 17.

"We fought back in the fourth quarter," Dona said. "But turned the ball over twice late."

Sonora converted just 3 of 16 shots from beyond the arc and sank 5 of 10 attempts from the charity stripe.

"We had open looks and just couldn't knock them down," Dona said. "It's frustrating that they shot 33 free throws to just 10 for us in our building."

Although the Wildcats weren't able to grind out a victory, playing in front of a cheerful crowd during winter homecoming was a treat.

"Atmosphere was awesome," Dona said. "It was Winterfest, the band, the cheerleaders and a lot of people were there. They gave us an extra step."

Warring shot 9 of 14 from the field and tied for the team lead with Russel Wilson by grabbing six rebounds.

"Kahale had a nice night," Dona said.

Collamer also made four steals and distributed six assists. Along with a Collmer trey, Wolfe made two shots from 3-point range.

Sonora (9-13, 3-8 VOL) tries to snap its two-game skid when it hosts Kimball for senior nighton Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.inside Bud Castle Gym.

Kimball knocked off Sonora 73-53 in its first matchup in January.

"We're getting ready to take on Kimball for senior night," Dona said. "We've got three games left, and I'd like to win them all."
