The Union Democrat Sports Department

Sonora Wildcats Will Collamer and Kahale Warring both dropped 15 points each, but it wasn't enough as Sonora fell 57-56 to Weston Ranchon Saturdayat Bud Castle Gym.

The Wildcats and Cougars were tied at 14 after the first quarter, but then Sonora, who defeated Weston Ranch 68-62 earlier this year, settled down.

Sonora's defensive pressure held Weston Ranch to just three points in the second period, and the Wildcats took a 21-17 lead into the break.

But Weston Ranch, winners of back-to-back Valley Oak League games heading into this match, was not going away.

The Cougars came out on fire and outscored Sonora 19-13 to open the second half.

In the final 8 minutes, Sonora was able to keep pace with a surging Weston Ranch offense, netting 22 points to the Cougars' 21, but came up just short.

The Wildcats have lost four straight league games in a row since beating Weston Ranch (7-10, 3-2 VOL) on Jan. 7, and it was the second time in two games, the Wildcats have lost by two points or fewer.

Collamer, again, was outstanding shooting the ball, hitting 55 percent of his shots on 6 of 11 attempts. The senior point guard also made one of Sonora's two 3-pointers and pulled down four rebounds.

Warring, a 6-foot-5 junior forward, shot 50 percent from the field on 5 of 10 attempts and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Sonora (7-9, 1-4 VOL) looks to snap its four-game skid when it plays Kimball (12-5, 2-2 VOL)on Tuesdayin Tracy.
