The Summerville Bears boys' basketball team slowed the pace and earned their first Mother Lode League winon Wednesday, a 43-35 victory over Amador in Tuolumne.

"The last couple of games we figured we better slow down things," said Bears head coach Ben Watson. "And it's been good for us."

Eli Mclaurin scored a game-high 13 points for the Bears and Bryce Farrell added six points and a season-best 13 rebounds.

"That was Bryce's best rebounding effort of the season," Watson said.

Summerville jumped all over the Buffaloes in the first period, leading 18-7 after the first eight minutes. The Bears exteneded their lead to 29-15 at halftime.

Amador closed the gap by four points in the third and came back to within six points of the Bears early in the fourth, but Summerville was able to fend off the rally.

"We played much better 'D' and they didn't shoot very well," Watson said. "We had a game plan of using the clock and not taking quick shots. And for a young group, I was pleased they executed the game plan.

"We need to take advantage of our possessions and keep it out of our opponents' hands. I felt our plan of working the clock paid dividends."

For the Bears (5-11, 1-4 MLL) Braden Anderson scored six points, Aryk Freeman and Ethan Mclaurin added five points, Kenny Phillips added four and Daniel Sedlmyer and Darren Warnock each added a basket.

Amador was led by Josh Coy's seven points.

The Bears finish their three-game weekon Fridayat home against the Argonaut Mustangs. Tip-off is at7:30 p.m.
