Superior Spartan: Hanah Blume

The Union Democrat Sports Department

One of the best volleyball players in Sonora High School history recently became one of the all-time greats for the San Jose State Spartans.

Hanah Blume, a 2010 Wildcat graduate, completed her senior season on Nov. 29 and became the first Spartan to be named to the Mountain West All-Conference Team since the school joined the league this year.

Blume, an outside hitter, finished with a team-high 413 kills, 3.59 per set, and was also the top defender with 362 digs. She was sixth in the conference in kills and 14th in digs. During her final year, Blume reached 1,000 kills (1,064) and 1,000 digs (1,069) for her career, one of only four Spartans to reach those levels.

She is one of 21 players for San Jose State to record a 20/20 double-double (kills and digs) and is one of four players to record 35 digs in a match. Blume was the only Spartan to receive All-Conference honors. The Columbia native also earned her third straight Spartan Foundation Student-Athlete of the Month award on Dec. 9.
