Balanced scoring helps Bears beat Tigers

Summerville used a balanced scoring attack to defeat the Los Banos Tigers 70-61 Thursday in the first round of the Hilmar Basketball Tournament.

Four Bears scored in double digits including Braden Anderson with 12, Kenny Phillips with 11 and Bryce Farrell and Jake Fulkerson each with 10 points.

Summerville led 17-16 after the first period, 39-27 at halftime and 53-46 heading into the final quarter.

Also for the Bears (3-3), Eli Mclaurin scored eight points, Benjamin Richardson netted seven points, including two 3-pointers and Danny Robles added six points. Darren Warnock grabbed a team-high five rebounds and Jeff Grabow hauled in four.

Summerville will play Mariposa today and try to avenge a season-opening 4-point loss on Dec. 3. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
