The Union Democrat Sports Department

The Ebbetts Pass Little League and Calaveras American Little League have merged into one league for the 2014 season.

Registration is now open for the newly formed Bret Harte Little League, and can be completed online, by mail or in person.

To sign up a child, registration can be completed online at the league's new website www.bhlittleleague.com .

On-site registration will be hosted at the following sites: Avery Middle School, Jan. 8, 2:30-3:30 p.m.; Mark Twain Elementary, Jan. 9, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.; Copper Elementary, Jan. 10, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Michelson Elementary, Jan. 10, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Hazel Fisher, Jan. 10, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Age and residency documents will be required for on-site locations.

To mail registration, include all forms and register no later than Feb. 2. Make the check or cash payable to BHLL, P.O. Box 155, Altaville, California 95222.

All minor and major division players must attend one player evaluation day on either Jan. 18 or 25 at 9:30 a.m.

This day is regulated to the BHLL conducting annual tryouts for minors, majors and juniors division players to score player performance in advance of the player selection process or draft.

Athletes will be evaluated on the following skills: base running, fielding ground and fly balls, machine pitch batting and infield throwing.

Minors and juniors meet at Feeney Park and the Majors division at Frogtown.
