Sonora tops Edison, falls to Tracy, Chavez in Stockton

The Sonora Wildcats boys' basketball team went 1-2 at the 56th Annual Stagg Tournament in Stockton.
Sonora opened tournament play with a 63-59 win over Edisonon Thursday.
The Wildcats led 30-22 at the break and scored 33 combined points in the final two quarters to seal the team's victory.
Three different players scored in double digits to lead the Wildcats. Junior forward Thomas Nelson scored a team-best 17 points. Nelson shot 55 percent from the field, nailing 6 of 11 attempts. Six-foot-five forward Kahale Warring posted a double-double, recording 16 points and grabbing 18 rebounds (11 defensive, seven offensive). Point guard Will Collamer dropped 15 points.
Scott Liggett finished with five points. Carter had four. Matt Howard and Kyle Wolfe both had two, and Russel Wilson and Ryan Dies had one.
On Friday, Sonora was edged by Tracy 57-54.
In the first half, Sonora coasted to a 29-21 lead, but could not sustain that consistent effort.
The Wildcats were outscored 23-8 in the third quarter as the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half.
Collamer posted a season-high 20 points on 7 of 12 shooting for a 58 percent clip. Warring added 14 points and snagged a team-high six rebounds. Nelson, who hit two shots from beyond the arc, was the only other player to score in double digits at 10.
Sonora fell 89-70 against Chavezon Saturdayto cap the tournament.
Chavez jumped out to an early 16-10 lead after the first quarter, and kept the momentum going the rest of the way.
The Titans owned a 41-28 lead at halftime, and scored 48 points in the second half to secure their win.
For the Wildcats, Nelson led Sonora with 26 points and seven rebounds. The junior shot 6 of 14 from the field, including 4 of 7 from 3-point line. He finished 10 of 13 from the free throw line.
Warring chipped in 14 points and Collamer added 11 in the loss.
Sonora (2-2) will host Pitmanon Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
