4 Foothill Gold runners qualify for Junior Olympic Nationals

Four Foothill Gold athletes qualified this weekend for the 47th National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships that will be held in Greensboro, N.C. later this month.

Broen Holman (8-and-under boys) and Cassi Land (13-14 girls) qualified in two events while Foothill Gold Running and Track Club teammates Kaela Dishion (13-14 girls) and Jackson McIlroy (13-14 boys) qualified in one event during the Region 14 Junior Olympic qualifier at Diablo Valley College in Concord.

Holman finished third in the 1500 meter with a time of 5:54 and fourth in the 800 meter with a run of 3:07.65.

Land earned a pair of second-place finishes. She recorded a time of 2:21.39 in the 800 and ran the 1500 meter in 4:48.

Dishion qualified for Greensboro with a second-place finish in the long 3000-meter run in a time of 11:07.72 to qualify. She also ran the 1500 and finished seventh.

McIlroy earned a trip east by finishing third in the 3000 with a time of 10:34.92. He also ran the 1500 and finished eighth in 4:46.

Other Foothill gold runners competing at Concord were Ryan Dunlap (6th in the 3000, 11:22.41), Connor Landis (eighth, 800, 2:18.91) and Colby Dibble (eighth, 800, 2:37.87).

The National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships will be held at North Carolina A&T State University from July 22-28. Around 8,000 athletes are expected to compete.

The Junior Olympic program is a progressional series of meets consisting of preliminary, association, regional and national meets. Athletes are required to enter online at the first level of competition and advancement is based upon performance.
