Fray nets 2nd career ace in 3rd full round

When Andrea Fray hit a hole-in-one last month at Mountain Springs Golf Club in just her third full-round of golf, she couldn't believe it.

Neither did her husband, Mark.

But it happened on June 25 when Fray teed off with her 7-iron at the Par 3, 105-yard 12th hole.

"I was actually trying to hit at the pin," Fray said. "I was just kind of relaxed and tried to keep my head down. It hit something and we heard it."

So the 41-year-old sprinted more than 100 yards with her husband, and found the ball sitting in the hole.

The golf ball bounced on the green about a foot away from the hole, leaving a divot, struck the flagstick and landed perfectly in the hole.

"They just can't believe it because I never golf," Fray said. "I never play and it's really hilarious."

It was Fray's second hole-in-one in three years. Her first one was accomplished at a golf course in Carson Valley.

"I don't think I appreciate it because its happened twice," she said.

As for Mark, he's still waiting for his first one.

"He has more than 18 years of golfing experience," Fray said of her husband. "And he doesn't have any, so it's kind of fun."

Other hole-in-ones in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties include Tim Doyle and Tracy Chelf.

Doyle, a Sonora resident, scored a hole-in-one on hole No. 7 at Mountain Springs, using a 5-iron from 175 yards.

And Chelf accomplished the same feat at Greenhorn Creek Resort and Golf Club in Angels Camp.
