Area girls earn MLL soccer honors

The Mother Lode League has named Calaveras senior Tiffany Souza as Forward of the Year and Summerville senior Larissa Barrett as Goalkeeper of the Year for the 2013 girls' soccer season.

Souza, a team captain, scored eight goals and added eight assists on the season as she led the Redskins to a share of the MLL title with the Amador Buffaloes and a berth in the first round of the Division V playoffs.

Barrett remained strong in front of the net for Summerville throughout the season, despite the Bears finishing with a 3-9-3 record and missing the postseason for the first time in three years.

Bear senior Nicole Schultz, a co-captain with Barrett, earned All-League First Team honors and Bears Katelynn Stewart and Camilla Richardson made the Second Team.

Two more Redskins joined Souza on the First Team, Calaveras senior defender Mercedes Ball and junior defender Jordyn Leetham. Ball was named the 2012 MLL Defender of the Year but missed several games down the stretch this season due to injury.

Bret Harte junior Lauren Redding made the First Team as a midfielder/defender. The Bullfrogs finished with a 2-8-5 record in the MLL.

Other area athletes who made the Second Team were: Calaveras junior Davis Fee and freshman Breanna Brumet, along with Bret Harte juniors Jessica Stohlman and Diana Munoz.

Honorable mentions from the area were: Redskins Savannah McIntosh, Kassy Dietle and Gabby Krigbaum; Bears Hannah Cowan, Alica Scott and Shylnn Pollard; and Bullfrogs Allie Steele, Brittany Schulte and Samantha Crabtree.
