Brocchini tops MLL award honorees

Summerville ace Joey Brocchini has been named the Mother Lode League Most Valuable Player for the 2013 baseball season, while two more Bears and four Calaveras Redskins made the All-League First Team.

As Summerville's No. 1 pitcher, Brocchini finished the season with a 4.08 ERA and a 4-2 record. The senior also had a total 49 strikeouts in 48 innings and closed for the Bears in the first round of the 2013 Sac-Joaquin Section Division V Championships.

Colton Ebbers, a junior, was the next pitcher in Summerville's rotation and earned a spot on the First Team. Bear sophomore Bryce Farrell was also selected for his solid hitting and play at shortstop.

The Bears ended the regular season with a 9-5 MLL record to finish in second place behind undefeated-in-league Linden and were 12-13 overall after advancing to the first round of the playoffs.

Calaveras advanced to the postseason after earning the No. 3 seed in the MLL with a 9-6 record. They beat Lindhurst in the first round and fell to Escalon in the second.

Redskin junior ace Wyatt Durham made the MLL First Team along with teammates Anthony Flores, a senior, Mike Seawell, a junior and Derek Rittenhouse, a junior.

Making the Second Team were: Logen Foster, senior, and Johnathan Olsen, junior, from Summerville; John Rohrabuagh, senior, Mike McCullough, senior, Kyle Bennet, senior, from Bret Harte; Christian Moore, senior, and Thomas Boitano, senior, of Calaveras.
